yep, same round, on same basis like 5.56 being used in M-16, but also Famas, SA-80, Sig-550 etc. But we use more tungsten cores than DU because we manufacture them here, we must import DU ammo... but performance is great still.

but gattling? no. why?GAU-8 form A-10 281 kg, Mk44 from Rosomak 160 kg. Also more round consumption.

Because our IFV's needs to swim, and GAU-8 is TWICE as heavy as Mk44. M-134 is different league... we have them in Mi-17 helis.

1st: budget cuts - they were under pressure, but now when they need force in middle-east, eastern europe and pacific they are not pressured for cuts that much. they are tangled on whole globe and need every single squardron they can have.
2nd: Air Forca/Army rivalization - Air Force was never happy about ground support for "grunts" and for abition reasons they want to make "every pilot is a fighter pilot" policy to happen.

this A-10 fund stuff has been going on for a while, thankfully they've always had some sensible politicians to raise the issue in congress.

'every pilot is a fighter pilot' is just insane, they need both choppers and planes for close air.

The F-35 is never going to do it vs insurgents with AAA, which is going to be all the war they'll see in the foreseeable future anyway, fun to talk about Russia-NATO hot war but at most all we'll get is either proxy war with one bombing the other's cannon fodder, or, a genuine problem with some insurgent groups.

    Syria update:

Syrian peace talks suspended after two days

called off for good I think, Saudis wanted jaish al-islam and ahrar as-sham etc involved, which Russia agreed too, but then they wanted more and more.. just keep bombing these bastards till none is left.

Lavrov: Russia won't stop Syria strikes until 'terrorists' defeated

    SAA continue making good gains:

Syrian forces break rebel siege of key towns

Tornados with Brimstones are doing decent job at CAS too. Loading F-35 with cheap, guided, light missiles will fill the "cannon gap". Precision firing from safe attlitude. Also lotsa portable drones, with light warheads...

Tornados are still fast air interceptors doing a multi-role role, they don't have anything like the warthog that can take a beating and keep hitting targets.

and you have to be joking about the 'portable drones with light warheads', the A-10 is a special and specialized beast, an A-11 is in order.. they could call it a Pangolin or Rhino maybe for so much armour protection. :D

Nope, Tornado is dedicated strike aircraft in most versions, Interceptor variant was relatively short used as stop-gap until Eurofighter would be introduced, now they are only ground attack and SEAD variants in use. And they have TWO 27 MM cannons, variable wings that are giving them decent low-attitude subsonic-speed performance. And thing is taking beating at low attitude might not be the case -

12 Brimstone each, small warhead, proven to be effective CAS weapon, enough to kill modern tank, and can be fired from safe attitude. Weapon systems don't need direct replacement sometimes, look at British V bomber fleet, replaced by smaller Tornados, Battleships replaced with carriers, whole fleet of different US Navy aircraft warped now into Super Hornet...

still might need it vs an insurgent uprising, 10 Brimstone are almost 2 milion $

Also ORP Ko┼øciuszko, Polish Navy Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate (recivied as military aid form US in 2002) is now stationing in Sicily to booster NATO naval assets on Mediterranean Sea. It's embarked with Polish Special Forces elements and SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopter.

At first Yak-130 and M-346 were joint Italian-Russian project. But they separated, but aerodynamical layout stayed same for both, but engines, avionics etc. is all different

cool, heard of it. But right now we plan to get new F-35 around 2022. Still upcoming Block 70 seems be on par with Tranche 3 Eurofigher and Rafale. And it's smokes Gripen and Tejas.

124 meters long. 1.200 tons displacement. EX-US Navy (they like BIG). Armed with 76 mm gun and RGM-84 Harpoon and SM-1MR Standard missiles. SH-2G Super Seasprite on board helicopter have been modified to use newest EuroTorp MU-90 ASuW torpedos. And MG's were switched to Soviet-pattern PK ones, for logistic proposes (Navy don't use 7.62x51 NATO right now and is still using 7.62x54 Russian).

4 way battle Syria/Russia - Al-Nusra/USA - Turkey/ISIS and Kurds. Each of them wants the same. It's ain't gonna resolve anytime soon. It's having potential for longest conventional military confrontation of XXI century so far (not counting any gurilla/asymetrical wars, all sides have heavy weapons and standing regular armies).
