How can one turn an area in a basement that is unfinished, into a nice living space without is costing so much? I never had to do this before but I am trying to think of ideas on how to make this work.

The best way to do it would be to look out for cheap used furniture and purchase that rather than buying brand new and also if the walls are good enough you could just paint them a colour that you feel is right to help brighten up the area a little. Alternatively buy the cheapest wallpaper and then paint over that :)

You have to take a photo of your basement so we can easily understand how it is now.
Choose soft and cheap things to re-design it such as : wallpaper, paints, wook, carton boxes,...
