For some reason, I get into cleaning once in a while, but it's rare. I'm by nature, a messy person. But when I do clean, I like to do a good job at it. And I seem to be really interested in it. What I was wondering, can cleaning be a hobby? I realize some people wouldn't agree with that, but I do believe there are people out there who make it a hobby of theirs. What do you think?

It might be a hobby if the person enjoys it.
There are a few people I know that really love doing cleaning and they actually enjoy themselves when doing it.

As about me, it's definitely not a hobby. I love a clean and tidy house therefor i clean, i like it or not.

My brother loves to clean, and actually wants a job doing it. I myself hate cleaning for the most part, but when I get into the mood, I do happen to like it, maybe it's because I like changing my room around a bit every so often. It's odd.

I can understand enjoying it, but a hobby is an interest pursued in your leisure time..if someone cleans like others play music or games or do sports maybe there's something wrong with them :P

So often? I guess my PC would thank me if I too would pick up the slack.

Anyway, I'm kind of tidy by default, and I like organizing stuff from time-to-time, so I don't really look at cleaning as a whole ritual on its own. I just try to always keep things more-or-less in order.

I wouldn't consider cleaning a hobby myself, but who knows. I just quite recently had a discussion with a friend who considers reading books and watching movies as hobbies, while I definitely don't (unless one's a reviewer or something), so my standards might be a bit off.

    Noted. :)

Anyway, I don't know exactly, I admit that the distinction between a hobby and a non-hobby is subtle in my mind. Perhaps a hobby is something in which you can actively engage in (not simply sit down and "consume"), and where you can kind-of measure your progress (i.e. get better in it (for example, chess), or see the hobby itself evolving somehow (for example, gardening).
